Your Questions, Answered
What type of healthcare does Avira provide?
Avira Nursing & Wellness provides independent, nurse-led care delivered by a licensed Registered Nurse (RN) within the RN scope of practice. Services focus on health assessment, education, prevention, wellness, symptom support, chronic condition management, advocacy, care coordination, and helping you better understand and manage your health. Avira does not practice medicine or replace the care of a physician or other licensed medical provider.
What can a Registered Nurse do?
Registered Nurses are licensed healthcare professionals trained to assess health needs, identify changes or concerns, provide nursing interventions, educate patients and families, monitor health conditions, support symptom management, promote healthy behaviors, and help individuals navigate the healthcare system. At Avira, your nurse can help you understand what's happening with your health, identify when additional medical evaluation may be appropriate, develop strategies to support your wellness, and help you prepare for conversations with your healthcare providers.
What can't an Avira Registered Nurse do?
Avira's Registered Nurse does not diagnose medical conditions, prescribe medications, or independently provide medical treatment that requires a physician or other authorized provider's order. When your needs extend beyond nursing care, Avira will recommend that you seek evaluation from an appropriate healthcare provider.
Does Avira replace my primary care provider?
No. Avira is designed to complement—not replace—primary care. Your primary care provider remains responsible for medical diagnosis, prescribing medications, ordering certain tests and treatments, and managing medical conditions that require provider-level care. Avira helps bridge the space before, between, and beyond medical appointments by providing nursing assessment, education, monitoring, advocacy, and ongoing support.
Is Avira an emergency or urgent care service?
No. Avira is not an emergency medical service or substitute for emergency or urgent medical care. If you are experiencing a medical emergency or potentially life-threatening symptoms, call 911 or seek emergency medical care immediately. Avira should not be used to delay emergency evaluation or treatment. For non-emergency concerns, your Avira nurse can help you understand your symptoms, provide appropriate nursing guidance, and help determine when further medical evaluation may be needed.
Can my Avira nurse tell me what's wrong with me?
Your nurse can perform a nursing assessment and discuss findings, symptoms, health risks, and appropriate next steps. However, an RN does not make a medical diagnosis. For example, your nurse may recognize that your symptoms or assessment findings warrant further evaluation and recommend that you contact primary care, urgent care, or emergency services as appropriate.
Can Avira help with medications?
Yes. Within nursing scope and your individualized care needs, Avira can provide medication education, review how medications are being taken, help you understand medication instructions, discuss adherence or side effects that should be reported, and reinforce an existing treatment plan. Avira does not prescribe medications or independently change a medication, dose, or prescribed treatment plan. When medication concerns require a prescribing decision, your nurse will direct you back to the appropriate prescriber.
Does Avira work with my existing healthcare team?
Absolutely. Avira is intended to add nursing support around the healthcare you already receive. With your permission, your nurse can help you organize health information, prepare questions for appointments, understand care instructions, advocate for your needs, and support you in following the plan established by your healthcare providers.
Do I need to be in Minnesota to receive Avira nursing services?
Yes. Avira Nursing & Wellness currently provides nursing services to clients who are physically located in Minnesota at the time care is provided, including virtual visits. Because nursing practice is regulated by the state where the client is located, your Avira Registered Nurse must be authorized to practice nursing in that state. You may live or travel outside Minnesota, but you must be physically present in Minnesota when receiving Avira nursing care. As Avira expands licensure in the future, services may become available in additional states.
